30 Hour Famine
It is that time of year agan to start planning our 30 hour Famine to help World Hunger.
I hope everyone can make Friday March 9 and Saturday March 10th.
Sunday March 11th the service is done by those that have participated in the famine.
How it works:
Friday you eat lunch and then we don't eat again until Saturday at 6pm. We meet at the Church at 6 pm and do a fun activity- last year we went to Patriot Place and did Espionage. Looking for ideas for this year.
On Saturday 6pm we have a break-the-fast meal which is usually spaghetti dinner- our families are invited to join us.
To keep our hunger at bay and keep our energy up we drink juice and water and chew gum.
We also play games that educate us on hunger around the world and do some craft to represent the number of people that die because of hunger.
Last year we only had 5 Youth participate but they did a wonderful job and had a great time.
I forgot to mention its a sleepover for the youth downstairs in the sunday school big area.
They need to bring things like asleeping bag and pillow, I will send a list of what to bring when it gets closer and we have the list of participants
On Saturday families come back at 5:30-5:45 we all have communion together(big pieces of bread for us who fasted :)
and then dinner at 6.
Who may participate:
Anyone in 6th grade and up. Friends and any others you know are also invited to participate.
I will have a signup list on the table next week along with the donation collection envelopes.
You may also email me back to let me know if you will partipate in the 30Hr Famine.
If you are around 100lbs or less or have other medical/health conditions that prohibit the fasting. We allow you to have your family bring you something to eat in the kitchen away from the rest of us.
Can you or someone you know use a Helping Hand???
The Nurture Committee is here to help you or other parishioners who are in need of a Helping Hand ("Hands-to-Heart") due to a family crisis, a death in the family, a birth, etc. We would help coordinate meal(s), errand running, transportation, and/or child-sitting as is needed by the person(s). If you know someone who could use a Helping
Hand, please let the Nurture Committee know.

Fair Trade sales
The youth group continues to sell fair trade products- coffee, tea and chocolate products as well as almonds and cranberries on the third Sunday each month. Fair trade provides a fair wage to the farmer. Our distributor- Equal Exchange has policies that the farmer gets one third of the cost, a local farmers cooperative- made up of the growers in that region get one third and Equal Exchange gets one third of the wholesale price. The cooperatives make local decisions about how to use their share to improve their community. Most of the products are organic, with shade grown coffee, but some are not guaranteed organic. Each organic product is clearly marked. We try to keep a variety of products, but if you don’t see your favorite, let us know and we can order it for you.
Hymn Sing
There will be a hymn sing at the Franklin Healthcare/Skilled Nursing faculity on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:15am.
We need help to sing. Please see Donna Dunwiddie if you are interested.
Food Pantry Collection
We will collect Ensure for the Food Pantry on the last Sunday of the month. We have been supplying the Food Pantry with Ensure for those clients that are extremely ill. We will continue to purchase Ensure with the collections we receive. We will give the Food Pantry any monies in excess of that purchase for their use in purchasing healthy, nutritional food from the food bank. We have been informed that their need for support has increased, as they not only help those in need from Franklin, but in the surrounding 16 towns. The client income has decreased while the cost of living has increased. The Food Bank has lost one large supporter that enabled them to purchase food items at the food bank at very reasonable prices. Please look for the Outreach member holding a green canister. Checks should be made out to FUMC with Food Pantry written on the memo line.
Christmas Ornaments
There are still a number of ornaments available for purchase of our church. They are a gold plated replica of the church. Cost is $20.00/each. If you are interested in buying one please see one of the Trustees. They will be for sale after the worship service on Sundays.
